ShellCon is a non-profit organization co-founded by one of our partners, Sean. As a community-organized non-profit staffed by professionals and enthusiasts in the Greater Los Angeles area, ShellCon’s goal is to provide services to the local Southern California infosec/hacker community and be a bridge between those just starting out in infosec and the talented leaders in the industry.

The yearly conference, happening on September 21 and 22 in San Pedro, CA this year, is a growing event that is focused on creating an atmosphere of diversity, open communication, collaboration, and connection. Presentations and events at the con will have a focus on practicality and real world use. They want you to walk away from ShellCon with an itch to try what you just learned and the knowledge to do so.

The conference is made up of three main sections: Presentations, Hacker Village, and RaiseMe.

Experts in the field come to share their knowledge with the rest of us. The Presentations are where attendees go to learn something practical to take home with them. Presenters are encouraged to provide a practical talk with advice from their experience, and to use their knowledge to show attendees a new skill or tool that can help them in their own endeavors.

The Hacker Village is the home of their hands-on activities. Free mico-workshops (2 - 4 hours), soldering stations, lockpicking, a party like atmosphere and a number of hacking villages, including an IoT village and potentially a medical hacking village are all planned this year.

The RaiseMe arm of ShellCon is dedicated to helping professionals attain their career and learning goals. Whether you are currently outside the information security field and looking for your first role, or an established member of the InfoSec industry and want to kick up your career a notch, they’re here to lend a helping hand. Their volunteer consultants provide Resume Review, Job Hunting Assistance, and Career Check-ups during the conference. They also help companies looking for talent by connecting our participants with their hiring managers and staffing professionals. Read more at https://shellcon.io/raiseme/
